Subject: Holmdel Ski Club 2010 Trip Announcement
To:
Hello Holmdel Ski Club members and friends!
We’re in the dog days of summer, and you know what that means…it’s time to get
ready for the 2010 Ski Season! The Executive Committee is pleased to announce
three awesome trips, each with its own set of unique experiences to offer.
We’re starting off the season with a weekend trip over Martin Luther King
weekend, Fri, Jan 15 through Mon., Jan 18. Based on the very positive comments
and survey results from participants last year, we are returning to Sugarloaf,
Maine. Sugarloaf is the largest resort in the East with 1400 acres and a
vertical of 2820 feet. It has the only above tree-line skiing serviced by a lift
in the East. It has terrain for everyone from beginner to expert. This year we
will be staying at the Sugarloaf Mountain Inn, Sugarloaf’s top hotel (formerly
the Grand Summit Hotel), which is located slope side and is adjacent to the
Village center.
We know many of you love the experience of skiing in Europe, so this year we are
offering a trip to St. Anton, Austria, Jan. 29 – Feb. 6. St. Anton is in the
heart of the world famous Arlberg region where Austria’s skiing began in 1907.
Traditional in style yet modern in service and amenities, this region is what
newer resorts in the U.S. try to emulate when they strive for the Austrian
experience of skiing from town to town. The region consists of a massive 161
miles of groomed slopes, as well as 114 miles of un-groomed, backcountry runs,
spread across seven inter-connected ski areas.
We will be staying at the 3 star Nassereinerhof Hotel, a family run hotel
located only 150 yards from the fast Nassereinbahn gondola that will take you to
Gampen peak. Breakfast and four course dinners are included. This hotel embodies
the traditions of the old European style and features rooms with all the
amenities you’d expect, as well as a gorgeous backdrop of the Arlberg mountain
regions. The hotel also has a dining room, hotel bar, recreation room, hot tub,
sauna, and is within walking distance of the St. Anton village center.
Due to rising prices in Europe and the weak US dollar, the price of trip
extensions was very expensive. Instead of offering an extension, the Club chose
a ski area that included a rich amount of culture and ambiance, providing for a
well rounded skiing/boarding experience.
Many of our club members really, really, really wanted to go to Jackson Hole,
so…we are happy to offer a 5-day trip with 3 days of skiing at Jackson Hole and
one day at Grand Targhee! We will be leaving Wed., March 3rd and returning on
Mon., March 8th. Jackson Hole offers some of the most challenging skiing you
will ever experience; Grand Targhee is well known as a powder mountain with an
abundant absence of crowds. Both mountains are in the Grand Teton range, just
south of Yellowstone Park, offering some of the most gorgeous scenic views in
the country.
We will be staying in the town of Jackson, at the Parkway Inn, a quiet, yet
inviting hotel filled with antiques. The hotel contains a pool, hot tub, fitness
center and sauna. A continental breakfast is served each morning. A shuttle bus
to the mountain stops right in front of the Parkway Inn. Although it is always
difficult to obtain a large block of flight reservations into/out of Jackson
Hole, the Club has been successful in reserving 26 seats. However, with this
smaller than usual number of seats, we anticipate this trip to fill quickly, so
sign up early to reserve your spot!
Detailed information about each trip can be found on our website at http://www.holmdelskiclub.org.
However, trip sign up forms will not be posted until Saturday, August 1st, when
sign up officially begins.
Hope to see you on the slopes!
